CHILDCARE
Access to quality child care is extremely important to working families. Improving the availability and affordability of child care in Alaska will ease burdens on families and address a significant challenge for Alaska’s workforce.
SOLUTIONS
- Governor Dunleavy Established a Task Force on Child Care in April of 2023.
- The final report from the Childcare Task Force will be submitted to the Governor by the end of December 2023. This will include recommendations on short-term and long-term solutions to the accessibility and affordability of childcare in Alaska.

PUBLIC SAFETY
Public safety is one of the fundamental responsibilities of government. Governor Dunleavy has made historic investments in the Department of Public Safety. While progress has been made, there is still much work to be done.

SOLUTIONS
- HB58 Postpartum Medicaid Bill: Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy Signs SB 58 to Extend Postpartum Medicaid Coverage
- Postpartum Medicaid Extension extends coverage from 60 days to 365 days / 12 months for new moms
- Better supporting new moms – increases infants chances of success including a 25% increase in attendance at early screening and milestone checkups
- 51% of Alaskan births will now have 12 months of health coverage to support moms in this critically important time – supporting moms – so moms can be moms
- When mom’s are covered by health insurance – we see a 25%+ increase in well child check visits
- 88% of pregnancy related deaths in the last 5 years were potentially preventable – increasing access to early intervention treatment through health care coverage is a key way to drive down maternal mortality rates
- Aligning mother and baby’s Medicaid renewal timeline – helps reduce bureaucratic churn reducing both individuals that lose access to health insurance temporarily and reducing the number of times the state needs to process their paperwork
- Governor Dunleavy introduced the Opioid Remediation Fund HB 171/SB 133 in 2023 as a long-term funding solution for supporting opioid addition treatment, recover, remediation, and education.

As an isolated State with limited infrastructure and tremendous dependency on imports, the State of Alaska has a duty to improve the local production, harvest, and growth of foods and increase access to a sufficient supply of nutritious and safe food.
Food Security
With over 90 percent of the food staples Alaska use on a daily basis being imported from out-of-state, any disruptions in the supply chain — like we have experienced in the past few years – jeopardize Alaskans’ food security. It is imperative we build a strong, sustainable, healthy food system in our state to enhance the availability and affordability of qualify food for Alaskans.

- Governor Dunleavy will propose a food security omnibus bill in the upcoming session, focused on removing barriers for our local farmers and encouraging the purchase of Alaskan products by State of Alaska agencies. Additional legislation will be proposed to expand opportunities for individuals experiencing disabilities to have increased hunting opportunities.
- The Department of Environmental Conservation is working on a food freedom regulation package, increasing our local producers’ ability to sell homemade food goods to informed customers and encourage the expansion of the cottage food industry.

REDUCING THE COST OF ENERGY
Lowering energy costs is essential to lowering the overall cost of living and making Alaska a more affordable place to live for families and for businesses to invest. Governor Dunleavy is dedicated to all-in energy solutions for the state, including traditional energy sources of oil, gas, and coal, as well as promoting renewable sources and investing in energy innovation.

- Geothermal HB74: Governor Dunleavy introduced legislation to expand development opportunities for Alaska’s vast geothermal resources. This legislation is part of Governor Dunleavy’s all-in approach on energy to take advantage of every opportunity to responsibly develop resources for the benefit of all Alaskans.
- Microreactor regulations put Alaskan communities at forefront of energy innovation. State of Alaska adopted regulations to streamline the regulatory process for communities wanting to provide low-cost and clean energy by nuclear microreactor power generation. Read full article here.
- The Alaska Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Project (the Alaska LNG Project) is Alaska’s priority energy infrastructure project to maximize the benefit of Alaska’s North Slope natural gas resources.
- HB154 Green Bank Bill: Governor Dunleavy introduced legislation that would create a “green bank” to finance sustainable energy projects under the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. AHFC has a proven track record of sound investments, and will work with the Alaska Energy Authority to evaluate and make indirect and direct investments to develop sustainable energy projects and lower costs for Alaskans across the state.
- Governor Dunleavy established Energy Security Task Force – the final report was delivered to the Governor on December 1, 2023. (link to report once we have it) Recommendations include a unified electrical transmission authority for the Railbelt.
- The Governor introduced in 2023 Carbon Offset and Carbon Storage legislation. SB 49 Carbon Offset Program legislation passed in May of 2023, HB 50 / SB 49 the Carbon Storage legislation is poised to pass the legislature in the upcoming session
